Outernet – St Giles Circus

Inspired by iconic city locations resembling Times Square and Piccadilly Circus, St Giles Circus is set to become an internationally recognised entertainment destination bringing communities together while preserving its historic characteristics.

LPA worked collaboratively with Skanska to deliver Buro Happold’s lighting concept with a range of customer-specific products and lighting solutions. The vision was to create a vibrant, striking and distinctive lighting design to be illuminated at night with an RGBW colour scheme. While the variable colour scheme was used to suit different event and performance requirements, the natural white light offered the perfect complement to the gold metallic façade for its day-to-day operations. The colour scheme would provide the building with a unique charm to be identified as a cultural and entertainment venue.

To accentuate the building’s form and architectural features, a grazing light was used on its vertical surfaces to create a dramatic visual effect for its visitors. A key factor when selecting the lighting was its functionality at night. It was essential that the luminaire selected provided enough illumination for various passages and arcades throughout the building and safe access to external areas.

As a decorative feature, we provided 2,600 individual fibre optic heads recessed into the ground with integrated gobos. This created an enticing and visually stunning sparkling look resembling a red carpet on the entrance floor.

The reimagined St Giles Circus provides a versatile and adaptable venue that can be transformed into a multitude of uses. LPA’s expert ability to adapt to design changes, create bespoke fixtures and provide solutions allowed us to deliver the client’s dynamic and vibrant vision for the project. Our quality customer service and responsiveness throughout this project make us a leading choice in the industry.

Congratulations to St Giles Circus for being nominated in the Darc Awards and the Winner of UK Project of the Year – Innovation at the CIBSE Society of Façade Engineering.
