150 Holborn Commercial Lighting

150 Holborn Commercial Lighting

LPA Lighting provided 90% of the lighting for the 9-storey commercial development building spanning 190,000 square feet. Located in the thriving area of London’s Midtown, the building will house over 1000 employees of the Dar Group in a state-of-the-art building, which they say will provide them “with a sustainable platform for growth for the next decade and beyond”.

The Architects Perkins + Will and a Dar group member were responsible for the design of the building featuring a sweeping staircase rising through the central atrium. A rooftop pavilion and roof garden with superb views over London, taking in St Paul’s Cathedral, Big Ben and the London Eye promotes the well-being of the building users.

Elementa Consulting delivered the lighting, full MEP design and fire engineering, while Currie and Brown provided cost consultancy services. Their innovative design targeted LEED Platinum, BREEAM Outstanding and SKA Gold to ensure that the building was one of the leading workspaces in London.

To deliver high-quality lighting within all the working areas and meeting rooms, LPA’s Pro S60 luminaires were used. In the open plan offices, suspended direct/indirect luminaires of different custom footprints and lengths with a microprismatic optic and DALI 2 dimmable drivers delivered the lighting at 4W/ m2. Within the meeting rooms and smaller offices, Pro S60 luminaires were suspended flush with the suspended ceiling providing direct lighting only.

Around the central atrium, the Hadis cylindrical downlights sit flush with the Hunter Douglas linear plank ceiling as did emergency downlights located within custom brackets. The black finish provides a stylish contrast to the timber planks.

Within the rooftop pavilion, a magnetic track system accommodates the Isse spotlights and linear downlights with an opal diffuser optic. These are all individually DALI dimmable and provide a flexible lighting solution for the space. Promoting well-being, staff use this area at lunchtime to take a break from their desk and enjoy the London skyline. The pavilion and adjacent roof-top garden are sensational spaces to host events and functions.

Visi downlights were utilised throughout the building in break-out spaces, tea points and circulation routes in a white RAL 9010 finish to match the ceiling tiles. Further functional lighting in the form of the Tornado IP66 linear luminaire provided the illumination for the SER and MER rooms, whilst the Astilla circular downlights illuminated the kitchen and servery areas
